Outline of Genesis Chapter 4 (with annotated notes).. will finish it later


IVAdam's sons (Gen. 4:25 - 5:4)
 A "Adam knew Eve," Hebrew word knew means the most intimate form of relationship between husband and wife, it includes but is not limited to sexual relations.
  a "...she conceieved and bare Cain" word meaning "acquisition," which speaks of the type of religion he had, and the type of religion some still have today.
   i He worshiped his self-will.
   ii He was angry with God.
   iii He refused to bring a proper sin offering.
   iv He was willing to murder his brother.
   v He lied to God.
   vi He became a vagabond because of his actions.
   vii His religion had no sense of sin, and no sense of a need for atonement. (See 2Pe 2).
  b "...I have gotten a man.." Scripture declares that Adam and Eve had sons and daughters, daughters may have been born before this time which may be the reason for the special emphasis for getting a male this time.
 B "Again she bare..." Notice in these two verses, the Bible says she conceived once, but bore twice: Possible reference to twins.
 C "..Abel was a keeper of sheep.." The Hebrew word ra`ah meaning "to tend a flock, to feed a flock."
  a It occurs 173 times, translated "feed, shepherd, herdman,  pastor, and other ways.  
  b "...Cain was a tiller of the ground..."  He worked the ground just as his father Adam did.

Failure of Cain: first false religion  (Gen. 4:3-5).
  a In time they became responsible for acting in personal faith in the coming Seed of the woman who was to bruise the serpent's head and restore man's dominion (see Gen. 3:15 ).
  b Cain tried to bring a sacrifice of fruits and vegetables, no blood involved (See Heb. 9:22).
 B First religious teacher  (Gen. 4:6-7).

 C Failure of Cain: first murder (Jn. 8:44)  (Gen. 4:8).

 D Failure of Cain: lying (Gen. 3:9; 4: 9-10; Job 38:1 - 42:6).

 E nbsp; Fourth or Cainic Covenant  (Gen. 4:11-15) .

 F Cain sentenced  (Gen. 4:11-12).

 G First recorded remorse  (Gen. 4:13-14).

 H Divine intervention (Gen. 3:21; 4:15).

 I First civilization  (Gen. 4:16-17).

 J Failure of Lamech: first polygamist  (Gen. 4:18-19).

 K First cattle rancher  (Gen. 4:20).

 L First musical instruments  (Gen. 4:21).

 N Failure of Lamech: second murderer  (Gen. 4:23-24)

 O Failure of Enos: beginning of idolatry  (Gen. 4:25-26)
